Emmerdale mercy killing storyline

The ITV1 soap Emmerdale has featured a mercy killing storyline this week.

In last night’s episode Sam gave in to his wife Alice’s pleas for help to die. Alice was dying and had been suffering from cancer for months. These links to the Emmerdale website provide more information about the storyline: Monday’s episode and Sunday’s episode.

These stories demonstrate why the law on assisted dying must change. Dignity in Dying campaigns for a change in the law so that terminally ill people who are mentally competent could legally ask a doctor for help to die.
