Dignity in Dying hopes Margo McDonald’s end of life choices Bill consultation encourages assisted dying debate in Scottish Parliament –

The draft Bill includes an option of assistance to die for people with degenerative conditions, terminal illnesses and those who become entirely dependent on others following a trauma.

Sarah Wootton, Chief Executive at Dignity in Dying said:

“Dignity in Dying welcomes the consultation and hope that the issues will subsequently be fully debated in the Scottish Parliament. Dignity in Dying does not agree with all of the proposals put forward in the draft Bill, and these concerns are fully explained in our response.

“We campaign for a change in the law for mentally competent, terminally ill adults at the end of their lives as well as greater choice, control and access to services for all.

“The recent case of Mr and Mrs Duff travelling abroad to die is yet another tragic example of the problem with the existing system, both in England and Scotland. This needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.”
